Each of the enemies look just as good, especially the slinky, sexy Chinese assassins. In an even more impressive feat, each of these items also reacts to Indy's movements, such as the whip flapping at his side.

Unlike other games that have objects just appear out of thin air, every object in Indy's inventory can be seen on him at all times, right down to the his canteen. I was particularly impressed with Emperor's Tomb model, which does a good job and portraying a believable likeness of Harrison Ford. Despite my complaints, Emperor's Tomb isn't a bad looking game, but after playing through Buffy's spooky, effects filled levels - I found myself wanting more.Ĭharacter models, on the other hand, are very good. Lighting effects are kept to a minimum, and color palettes are composed mostly of bright colors. I also thought that a majority of the levels were a little too bright. You never see dust kicked up when rolling around and jumping through catacombs or the remains of unwary adventurers. The problem is that except for a few unconvincing looking spider webs and some overgrowth - most of the temple is very clean. For example, the game's opening episode takes place in what is supposed to be an ancient temple. Although it's clear that a lot of attention went into building these levels, special effects are underused and end up taking away from the game's immersion level. As a whole, the game's environments are good, but come off as stale and lifeless. Graphically, Emperor's Tomb flexes the Xbox's muscle, but doesn't quite blow any other games away. Well, it looks like The Collective is back at it again with Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. In the review I stated that it was one of the best games available on the Xbox and praised the developers for doing such a great job. Long time readers will no doubt remember my gushing review of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer a few months ago. If you're in the market for a good action game, then there is certainly one here with some great cinematic sequences, it's just not quite as good as we expect from the great man so it's hard not to feel a slight sense of disappointment. The Collective is quickly becoming one of my favorite development houses.

This one does create a suitably epic mood, in-keeping with the game's movie origins and which is thanks in no small part to the best theme tune ever written and which pops up frequently, but issues with overly simple puzzles and occasionally awkward controls do bring things down somewhat. There's certainly heaps of exciting action, a few surprises in the story and some classic villains to hiss at but there is also an overwhelming sense of deja vu as you explore yet another dusty old tomb and it's sad to say, but Lara Croft does it better. There's nothing particularly wrong with Emperor's Tomb, but one can't help expecting a bit more from any game with the Indiana Jones name attached. If the plot sounds familiar, then the rest of the gameplay will be even more so, as what follows is the usual mix of 3D platforming action, with plenty of dungeons and other exotic locations to be explored, bad guys to beat up and treasures to uncover. This one is less like the Lucasarts classics such as Fate of Atlantis and more like the actioners Last Crusade or even similar games like Tomb Raider (which clearly owes a great debt to Indy) and sees the world's greatest hero on the trail of another lost and amazingly powerful artefact which also just happens to be of interest to his old foes, the Nazis. The legendary movie hero is on the road again but unfortunately, once again his thrill-packed antics don't quite translate into the video gaming gold that they should. Another Indy game that lacks that movie magic
